Charleston Real Estate Technology Class-Listing Portals

by admin on September 11, 2009

Last week reviewed the 3 major real estate listing portals (Realtor.com, Zillow.com and Trulia.com) and how they help your Charleston real estate business.  Realtor.com is still the big dog but Zillow is catching up very fast with new tools and mobile applications for the consumer.  Trulia is third and gaining market share.  Let’s look at each portal and see how they compare.

ex_realtor Realtor.com likes photos. The more photos you have for your listing, the better your listing is ranked within Realtor.com.  To get a link back to your website or to have a call for action from your listing you have to pay a monthly fee to Realtor.com.  The cost is based on the number of residential listing you have.  (In Charleston 5 residential listings would run you $34/month).  If you have vacant land for sale, there is no up charge for them on Realtor.com.

zillow Zillow is know for being on the leading edge with mobile phone apps and sold statistics.  In contrast to Realtor.com, Zillow allows links backs to your website from your listings at no cost. (Set up your profile at Zillow.com. ) For featured listings and showcase ads, they charge by zip code similar to Realtor.com.  Downtown (29401 starts at $27/month, Mt Pleasant 29466 starts at $63/month).

truliaTrulia.com: Trulia is right behind Zillow and allows link backs to your website from your listings at no cost. ( Set up your free profile at Trulia.com. ) Trulia’s paid service is a flat fee of $29/month and this makes your listings stand out from the rest.  If you have many listings,  Trulia flat fee service might be a better benefit to you than Realtor.com.

In summary,  Realtor.com is still the biggest real estate listing portal but the Zillow and Trulia are rapidly gaining on Realtor.com.  The agents like Zillow and Trulia since they can set up their agent profile at no cost. The consumers like Zillow and Trulia for their mobile applications and their unique statistics.  Agents with many residential listings might find Trulia a better economic model to highlight their listings online.  All agents should take advantage of the free profiles on Trulia and Zillow.

What do you like about Realtor.com, Zillow.com and Trulia.com?

I like Trulia because of it’s reports. You can receive leads reports on a weekly basis for all your listings and it’s free.
